Our Story & Struggle
A Legacy That Lives On

“We find it most intolerable that we who sit on oil should be one of the poorest, if not the poorest, people in the country.”

Ogoni Nine Story & Struggle
MOSOP was founded in 1990 under the leadership of Ken Saro-Wiwa. The movement emerged in response to severe environmental damage caused by oil extraction in Ogoniland, located in Nigeria’s Niger Delta.
MOSOP called for environmental protection, human rights, and greater control over the Ogoni people’s land and resources. Ken Saro-Wiwa became an internationally recognized voice for the Ogoni people and a leader in non-violent resistance.
Our Mission
Is The Ogoni Nine
In 1995, Saro-Wiwa and eight other Ogoni leaders known as the Ogoni Nine were executed by Nigeria’s military government. Their deaths brought worldwide attention to the struggle for environmental justice and human rights in Ogoniland. However, their struggle did not end in 1995.
Their Legacy Continues
MOSOP Arizona continues to raise awareness, advocate peacefully, and carry the voice of the Ogoni people to the international community.
